Hmm, it used to be 7 days, which seems excessive to me.

Hmmm, excessive why? Surely needing to re-login every 24 hours is worse? Asleep at cptr

Hmm, are there many other forums that don't require a login more than once every 24 hours?

Personally, I believe 24 hours is fine.

Found it, its set on a forum by forum basis, and can be inherited. Now turned on for this forum.

It doesn't seem to include icons inside signatures. Confused2

Actually, smilies in sigs is turned on. img tags inside sigs is turned off.

I guess during the upgrade process, the smilie in your sig got changed from a smilie BBCode to an actual img tag, which would not work.

I edited your profile for you and changed the img tagged smilie back into a BBCode smilie. Now it works.

When I tried rating the topic earlier (using the stars theme), it gives the error "Failed to submit: error".
The rating, however, does get registered.

Rating threads with the default theme works fine, with no error message at the time of rating the thread.

Just to point out, threads that have been rated can still be read if you use the "today's messages" filter setting of the forum. You can reply to messages using that page and read/edit your reply the same way.

ps - What's with no polls in sub forums?

Dunno, this is the only place that I visit so regularly. Rolling Eyes

And anyway, what's the big deal with more frequent re-authentications that we need to sacrifice the ease of use? Sherlock

Two ways of going about anything.. The question could also be asked another way - what's the big deal of logging in once a day Wink.
With browsers remembering passwords, it's just an additional two clicks and page loads.

Anyway, I think the cookie session has been extended. I don't need to log in repeatedly.

Um, which sub forums? I may have to adjust permissions, as this newer version of FudForum does things in a slightly different way.

Having the browser remember passwords is only a security risk if others have access to the computer, or if the computer gets stolen. And if the computer gets stolen, then it doesn't take long to change the password.

RE: Stars theme

I see the black theme when I first visit the forum, but once I am logged in, it reverts to the white and blue look (which I guess is the default). This happens when I am using google chrome, but not IE, so I guess it is a Chrome thing.

Have fun.

You need to change it:
Control Panel - Account Settings - Theme: Stars

Btw: Is it possible to make the Stars Theme the default?

Is there any way to disable (maybe on a per user basis) the truncation of long posts.

I quite often drop threads onto my phone for reading later, only to come across a [Show the rest of this message] tag...

I've not come across a thread where the bandwidth saved by not displaying the whole post wasn't instantly eaten up ten times over by the required reload!

I'm not aware of anything but long posts are quite rare on this forum - most people exchange insults with few words.

The common exceptions are someone announcing a new game and listing all the game parameters and rules and secondly accounts of games that have finished.

At which point the requirement is low, so it might make sense to disable it entirely ??

Looking at the FUDforum forum it does seem to be a board wide configuration - the only discussion I can see is of adding a fudge factor, so you don't reload a page to reveal a final word rather than an essay (which was the intent of the limitation I think)

I just find it hard to wrap my head around the argument that people could have issues with the bandwith at SAH in this day and age, when a 56k dialup connection or cell with 3g have plenty of capacity to spare - and I doubt any of us are restricted to those.

And disabling images is the way to deal with bandwidth limitations (One avatar can be several kB, that's alot of text!) - not truncating text, certainly not when the rest of the text isn't ajaxed in, but is a whole page reload!

I suppose you might try javascript compilation on the client side and importing the posts as individual files so they could be locally cached, but it's a waste of time in the (western) world as it is today.

Yes, that would be great.
I am very much in favour of getting rid of truncation.

Perhaps a longer message limit would be a better idea....
Even if it's only 1/1000 posts, someone could drop an insane amount of data, just to troll. Keeping the safety measure intact with an increased safety limit might be a better option than just getting rid of it.

..and when I mean longer, I mean really longer.

When will we be heading back to http://starsautohost.org/sahforum/. ?
I was going through some old archives and the links don't work with the change to http://starsautohost.org/sahforum2/.

It's easy to replace the link, but.....

I know... one more small upgraded needed, which will need a style upgrade as well. Also I need to tweek the new user registration process, as over 300 spam accounts were recently created. I've deleted them.
