possibly changing the alliance rules |

(Posting here in addition to the email I sent as there is at least one person with an out-of-office reply...)
The Joat alliance is suggesting the possibility that we change the alliance rules, and basically remove the restriction on the number of allies.
We are already fighting the Lurker/Eagle and Ellurid/Sofian alliances. We surmise that eventually the Maera/Mycelium alliance will be against us before too long. We know that there has been communication and tech trading between the other alliances.
The idea for suggesting this is to make sure that the game remains fun for all players. There has still been some concern that some players might drop out, and if allowing the three two-way alliances to join together will keep all players involved and make it more fun for them, then we are all for it.
Of course the side effect of this is that Rancor would be able to join the Joat alliance, but then I imagine that would make it more fun for him as well.
We did discuss this with John the Host, and he finds it acceptable as long as every player agrees. Your responses may be public (to this list) or private (to John).
We look forward to any discussion on the matter.

Understood.
Quote: | The other alliances have absolutely nothing to gain from forming a super alliance. Nothing more than what we already have.
On the other hand, the JoaT alliance have a lot to gain by being able to coordinate attack with -Rancor-,
|
My thought was the other alliances would the same advantages that we would gain with the -Rancor-, except that there would be even more connections. Disagreement is acceptable.
Quote: | something which I already had doubts about since several years. Coincidences begin to pile up.
|
I would think from the loss I had this past year it would be painfully obvious that I am NOT coordinating with -Rancor-. You can ask the host to check my turn at any time, and I will not be offended. I have not done anything wrong for him to find.
I will add however that I do have very good scanners, and I can see some of what others are doing. I can make guesses based on that. Sometimes they go terribly wrong, sometimes they go well.
Quote: | I also do not see why we should change the rules in the middle (or rather near the end) of the game when they been followed all game long... What would have been the point then?
|
The nature of the game is changing, and we wanted to offer this to make sure that there is every possibility of other players staying in the game and having fun.

I understand very well that it must be "difficult" for you to coordinate attacks with a non-ally if you stick by the rules.
But the current situation is clearly the result of previous decisions made by Bugs/Vedin. They let a non-ally grow into their territory and then allied with Alpheus, always walking as closely to the rules as possible.
What would my alliance gain from it? Nothing, because our neighbors Sofians/Ellurid fight at another position, the warzone is very strechted.
Nevertheless I would think about it if Rancor retreats to Burrito, not interacting in this war any more for lets say 10 years. I don't think you four should get advantages at the moment.
Greetings

I have no problem with a change to the alliance rules, but no problem keeping them the same.
The only real advantage in going from neutral to friend is free passage through minefields and use of stargates. Potential for backstabbing increases with stargate use, of course, so I can imagine the Maera might be very particular about whom they set to friend.
With the stargates of the Sofians, that would be a nice benefit for those opposing the Joat alliance. But on the same token, the Joat alliance would be able to gate in Rancor fleets offensively and also gate to Rancor planets when they are attacked to aid in defense.
Hard to say which rules set would benefit the Mycelium (who have no stargates) at this stage of the game. Therefore, I am comfortable bowing out of the discussion and allowing the other players to reach a decision.
