Nice to see the game is up now. Now we just need to see everyone submitting their turn.

As for opening statements, how about "Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated." ?

It looks like all of our Race names are coming up " unknown " on the game page. Was this an oversite? Can they be filled in after the game has started?

Apparently the game was set up as anonymous. AlexTheGreat is taking votes for making it show which race is which person, which I'm all for.

As for the anonymous vote dont matter to me one way or the other.

I am not in favor of having our race/name combo revealed. I don't really understand how that would help. We can always exchange emails via the diplomacy tool in game.

Yeah, and it will take two turns till you get an answer. That's ok for a greeting message but not for diplomacy.

The in-game message to initiate diplomacy can contain the senders e-mail address, so if the receiver also wants to initiate diplomacy, then diplomacy can start during the turn after the sender has sent the message, i.e. if the sender sends the message in 2405, diplomacy can begin when the receiver opens the turn for 2406.

I must say that I am slightly disapointed to see that the first turn is not generated yet.

I know that some people like to take their time, but we all had the first turn file sent to us via email before it went live on AutoHost...

The thing is, anyone with some lateral thinking can figure out which race is which anyway. So for the benefit of everyone else, it's easier to just have it displayed.

By checking the player list for what player number you are, and pressing F10 to check that you are the same player number as the Eagles o Fornax. It was sorta obvious already, but that's how I confirmed it.

Hence why I'd like player/race shown openly, so I don't have to go through all that rigmarole.

Everyone knows which race you are because of the in-game message yoi sent out. A message is a form of encounter & when you encounter a player you know that race name.

I never said that I wanted it. I simply said that I wasn't in favor.

But like you said, there is no way this could ever be an issue unless our names were also set to unknown in the autohost page... So the discussion is quite moot.

I'd like to try out anonymous.
It encourages scouting and is closer to "reality".
I understand that this perhaps makes things more complicated, but I'd like to test this.

Unfortunatly, there is no such thing possible as an anonymous situation in this game.

As soon as you see an ennemy ship or someone send you a message, you know which number this player belong to. Since the name of the players as well as their email is already shown in the Autohost server, all you need to do is to match the right player to the right name.

Making those player name anonymous at this time would simply benefit those who already gathered a high amount of "intel" at the expense of those who didn't already.
