Wasn't sure where to put this one.... so here it is! Rolling Eyes

SCENARIO:

Running a game with an "observer race"...
Aforementioned race is set to pretty pink "inactive" on Autohost...

QUESTION:

When the turn is downloaded, due to the inactivity, you get a "x years of data read" message.
Can you twiddle something in order just to get the latest year's data, as opposed to the accrued total messages of all previous years?

Thanks... Cool

No,

This is a real problem as the m-file approaches the maximum size limit for autohost... the best idea is to submit a no-move move every once in a while to clear the history.

regards donjon.

If AH would delete the .m file each time before the next gen you wouldn't have this message, but you can't twiddle that. Wink
Or you could submit for each turn, even if you did nothing more than a save+submit, ... guess that's also something you don't want to hear. Wink
No further ideas right now ...

What?? There is no size limit for .M files. The only filesize limit is for .x files when you upload them.

As per usual, thanks for the help, comrades!

I guess I'll have to submit a turn once in a while (just to reduce the annoyance factor Wink )...

Sure, it scares the bejeebus out the players when the "inactive" race suddenly becomes "active", but there's nothing like a good dose of fear to liven things up a bit! Laughing

Thanks again... Cool

Well, perhaps I was mistaken and it is a software limit on the size of an M file then Smile

Actually that multi year M file can easily be split into separate year M files if you want to.

I have verified that its doable manually with hex editor, but am too lazy to write a tool.

If you want only last year:
1) scan for last occurence of "J3J3" in file.
2) position 2 bytes before that "J3J3".
3) copy all to end of file into new file.
4) open that new file in your stars!.

done. Wink
