In the "guts of tech trading" wiki it says about wolf/lamb trading: "Have an armed ship present at a battle in which a ship with higher tech than you possess is killed." [https://wiki.starsautohost.org/wiki/Guts_of_Tech_Trading]
The requirement for the ship to be armed struck me as inconsistent with my memory of the old "advanced AI" challenge game on the forum, where you could use a scout to lure the AIs into battle with each other, and gain tech in the process.
So, I tested it out with a 3 race testbed, with player 1 sending high-tech scouts to 5 wolf sites where player 2 had armed probes while player 3 sent in regular scouts. Player 3 gained a tech in the process, which is inconsistent with the wiki.

Is the wiki simply wrong? If so, can someone edit or give me access to edit?

I believe that you just need to have a ship survive the battle - and will edit the wiki accordingly... if I can remember my password....
Though the page is looking at tech trading explicitly - you can 'piggyback' other races' trade sites/battles.

Yeah, that's what my tests show as well. Of course, /someone/ needs to bring an armed ship to actually dissect the lamb... but it can be expedient to have one player provide armed ships and the other scouts only in a 3+ player scenario. (in 2 players, invasions seems easier anyway if you want to trade all techs)
