Is there a reason why you can't be inactive (i.e. not hold up gens) but still get turns emailed?

(Clearly there is currently some logic in the code, but I was wondering if that logic was deeper seated than a simple decision.

That was the way I setup it up in 1997 when I got Stars! AutoHost going. I guess my thought was that if an inactive player wanted to check on the game, they could bring up the game's webpage.

I suspect it would be nice to decouple the settings.

As a host I tend to put an email address of mine in for all players - then I have scripts which automatically sort them by game ID and year.

Parsers can then run over to extract things like all instances of "one of your ships was destroyed when you ran into that minefield" (potentially indicative of damage "allocation/tanking". Or they can generate the various universe wide reports (so resource/planet/base count per player per year, all in one nice spreadsheet)

Absolutely - I see the logic in the decision, I just wondered if the decision merited a revisit after nearly 20 years.

Think about bandwidth and storage back them (crikey), but now it is virtually unlimited. Even my non smart phone has enough storage to happily deal with a virtually limitless number of Stars! files...
