Looking at the page for lowtek (which currently is running on dynamic gens at or before 00:00 tonight)

There are only a few minutes to go until that time, but AH is saying an hour - is the AH display code broken, or is the calculation code broken?

DST is horrible in code, and since countries do it at different times it's unsurprising that it goes a bit haywire, but I'm wondering whether the display code is saying what AH thinks, or if it's got confused by the host OS going an hour forward...

Apparently (from another game) the static gens indicate that the display code was correct, implying that the underlying code is getting thrown by local DST (which I think kicked in last Saturday for the server)

It didn't cause a significant issue, but was confusing.

This is why many people leave servers at UTC all years round.

Do you know what the underlying issue is? (More than 'clock changes are a pointless pita)

SAH is a PERL script that runs a big WHILE loop. In the past it's genned some games twice during the time change so I've gotten in the habit of stopping the scripts before the time change to prevent weirdness.

DST is just a pointless pain in the wotsits.

We could be sensible (in the current world where time is so accurately known around the workd and just adjust schools starting time by 30 minutes if that makes for lighter skies for kids walking to school...


OTOH I got a 10 week contract out of fixing a significant balls up around DST by a comms company Wink
