After some playing around with Stars! I've found that this machine has an error with it, saying at times it has insufficient resources to run. After extensive troubleshooting on the net I can't get it to work right. It makes it almost unplayable for me, considering how I love to go back and edit my turns, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to drop out of this game. I'm just glad this has come up before the game actually started, so I don't unbalance the game or anything. Maybe sometime if I get my old machine up again I can join another game.

I still have a few open slots. If at all possible, I'd like to fill them before we start. So it will take a few days more...

I mean, no way I'm confirming that as a cheat, it's the most normal thing to do.

I know it's listed in the "Bugs"-section. I'm going to go through that list again and publish a list for the three 'RnR'-games, stating exactly which bugs and features may be used and which may not.

I think now is just not the right time. Hopefully I'll play Stars! again, but it's not going to be now.

Sorry, I guessed it would be one of the newer OSes, since XP has never given much trouble with Stars. Sherlock

Perhaps you're suffering from some wowexec blues, as seen in this old thread. Even that has workarounds / solutions.

If nothing else works, you could:

Deal

install XP afresh.

Deal

install a fresh XP virtual machine just for Stars! free from other potentially troublesome apps.

I use a virtual machine for all my old DOS and 16-bit games like Stars! since Stars! will not run on a 64-bit system.

Is there still a slot free in this game?

I think my last online game I played was 7 years ago. University has kept me occupied, but I'm almost finished grad school so I will have some time to play Stars! again. I'm one of those ancient players. LOL. I still have the original Version 1.10a of Stars! which I still play for laughs on occasion.
