I would like to join up.
But I need min 1 week to get race file in.

Any news on the slow tech. That would be an interesting factor to plan for considering the historical timesetting of this game.

np - race files are required Oct 13.

Slow Tech
Technology would indeed move very slowly in the 4th century BC but the important thing is a good game so I will seek opinions from the players.

If you are playing in this game & you want slow tech please say so now. I will make a firm decision in 3 days from now.

Backstab Rule
I have been thinking that maybe the backstab rule should kick in in 2450 rather than the originally stated 2440.

Would the players object to that?

We now have 10 players as follows:
1. Micha
2. Wizard (probable)
3. Shadow Whist
4. AlexTheGreat
5. Steve
6. neilhoward
7. Combat
8. NeoGrendal
9. Dashiva
10. Thieflord

I vote for slow tech if only to make each tech gained that much more valuable.

WRT backstab rule, do not care, set it and we will comply.

I would prefer not to have slow tech.
(mostly because I have been playing slow tech a lot lately - you know, the past 2 years Smile )

Only 3 players have offered an opinion re. slow tech: 2 for & 1 against so I assume that the rest aren't bothered.

If noone else wants slow tech we'll stick with normal tech.

We have 10 players & it's time to select your character (see list in original post or nominate a significant Macedonian you've selected from research). If 2 players want the same character first to claim it gets it.

We still have 6 free player slots but if you want in then now is the time.

I'll take Phillip III - many of my game opponents think I'd be prefect to play a feeble minded emperor.

We'll use Huge only if we sign up at least 2 more players - i.e.
10-11 players = 384 planets
12-16 players = 600 planets
An important aspect of this scenario is the distance between "cities" & I want the minimum distance to be around 250ly.

With 10-11 players I'm not sure if we'd get that in a Large universe so I'll need to check that out. A large universe (to reduce # planets) stretched to huge would be great but I understand that, in a stretched universe, you need to delete the starting ships which I'm not keen about.

The setup will be pushed to Oct 16 due to my RL issues (selling a house among other things) so you still have a little time if you need to do more race testing.

Race files can be sent to me (mcdonaldjk at bigpond dot com) until Joseph posts his email address here (I'm pretty sure he wouldn't mind me stating it here but I don't want to be presumptuous) after which you can send them to him. IF YOU"RE SENDING THE FILE TO ME ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE A RACE PW.

Joseph, I'll send you the game setup procedure, etc. once we know exactly what the universe template looks like.

There is insufficient interest for slow tech + since Shadow Whist has played so much of it recently his vote carries more weight. Therefore, tech will be normal.

Questions on setup
If my understanding is correct, cities will comprise of clumps of planets, and villages (single planets) will be between these cities (and voids of course).
So, approx, How many planets are you expecting to a city?
And what LY width in size?

It depends on how many players but:
1. The originally envisaged 16 playera & 600 planets would result in an AVERAGE city size of 18 planets in a roughly shaped circle of about 50ly diameter.
2. If noone else signs up & we end up with the current 10 players & 384 planets then I expect cities to still have an AVERAGE of 18 planets but the circles should be a slightly bigger at around 65ly. Note that I haven't tested this yet - I expect to have the time to test this by Sunday.

The number of hamlets will hopefully be few with islands being more common but still small in numbers.

Planets per city will vary but I'm hopefull that all cities will contain (average +/- 2) planets. It would be ideal if all cities were exactly the same size but Universe Creator remapping is never going to give that result - as it is, Joseph will probably need to move a number of planets to give a good result.

You don't need to delete ships when stretching, at least not when using the stretch utility.

I've stretched universes before but only for Glacier II in which ship deletion was required - I thought that was to avoid problems.

I'll test it on Sunday.
