Hi all, I am back after a long vacation from stars
Looking to start a game where new players can learn the game. (I have a buddy that is now interested in playing against humans for the first time)
The intent of this game is to let the new players learn, make mistakes and develop their skills. Not for an expert to take over the game.
Game parameters
Team Game: All races belonging to other teams must be set to "Enemy" at all times. No intentional tech swapping with the enemy by battles. All interaction (except fighting of course) with these other teams are prohibited.
No of players 8-10 (4-5 new players - less than 5 games against humans) and 4-5 Intermediate players - No experts please)
Game start - Dec 1 or soonest thereafter
Race restriction: CA is banned.
Medium Universe
packed
distant starting positions
Acc BBS
No public scores
Clumping
No cheats, split fleet is not considered a cheat
Any race missing 4 turns WILL AUTOMATICALLY be set to inactive.
Winner declared by unanimous vote of remaining players after year 80. If not unanimous, then the vote will be repeated (when requested) until a unanimous decision is reached.
Each beginner player will be teamed up with an intermediate player, pre determined teams ok. (In my case, I will play with my buddy). Hopefully the intermediate team player will assist the team with the race file development.
I will ask a known experienced player to setup the universe where the team players HW's are near each other (but still distant) with no other race between them.
Game will be played on AH, 24hr gens for first 20yrs (unless any team asks for a slowdown), then max 48 hrs. No gens on holidays (ie Xmas)
If you're interested in playing, please contact me at:
kenstars (AT) shaw (DOT) ca
If a beginner wants to play and does NOT know of an experienced player to form a team with, I will try and find you one.
Do not send me your race files as I will be playing. All race files will be sent to the setup person.

So this is a game with pre-game alliances?
How will team mate location be determined?

Game status
We have 5 full teams, and at least 1 beginner still looking for an advance player to complete the LAST team. A max of 6 teams.
So all you advanced players - lets get off the fence. Send me an email or PM me if interested.
The complete teams know who they are and have been contacted. If I have NOT sent you a status report email, then please contact me ASAP.
Game races will be due Nov 29 end of day.
Game to start Dec 1 (but depending on Ron).
*****
Please note: at the current time, the game is full for beginners. Just looking for advanced players. If this changes, I will post an update.

Welcome Tom!
Unfortunately, the "Hidden Friends" game is the only one enlisting at this stage & that is calling for more experienced players. There has, however, been a number of games suitable for beginners recently & hopefully another will start soon - take a look at "New Games" every few days or so.
Playing against humans is not easy but it's a great game & you should do OK if you follow Velvetthroat's advice, particulary the strategy bit: Altruist collected a bunch of strategy links here:
http://starsautohost.org/sahforum/index.php?t=msg&goto=3 0172&rid=933&S=858b42857030c4278749ebc70282c8e7
Personally, I would firstly go through the Official Strategy Guide & the "Stars Must Know" section on this forum, particularly the tutorial on how to get 25k by 2450.
If you can get close to 25k (say 15k) you'll probably not get blown away quickly. Also, beginners are prone to selecting WM, SS or HE. You should resist that in your first few games - play CA (if not banned in that particular game) or JOAT first which are the easiest to play & which produce good early economies provided your race design is OK.
